The 2022 Mazda3 Sport is a compact hatchback car that might not technically be a luxury model, but when you see one driving or parked in Mississauga, or anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area, you could easily be forgiven for thinking otherwise. Thanks to its sporty and futuristic exterior styling, high-quality interiors, superb handling, and available AWD, the 2022 Mazda3 Sport is a compact package to be reckoned with.
There are three straightforward trim levels for you to choose from in the 2022 Mazda3 Sport lineup, but there are plenty of ways to configure this gorgeous little car to suit your style and needs. The first model in the range is Mazda3 Sport GX, the mid-range offering is the GS, and the range-topping 2022 Mazda3 Sport is the highly impressive GT.
Front-wheel drive and G-Vectoring Control Plus are standard, regardless of which version of the 2022 Mazda3 Sport you choose to go with, but the capability of GS and GT versions of the Mazda hatchback can be further upgraded with Mazda’s i-Activ AWD system.
The 2022 Mazda3 Sport breaks with the convention most rivals follow by offering no fewer than three different engine options in a range with just three trim levels, while most automakers would probably choose to stick with just one powerplant. Entry-level GX versions of the Mazda3 Sport feature a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 155 horsepower and 150 lb.-ft. of torque, while the Mazda3 Sport GS and range-topping GT are upgraded with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that increases the car’s output to 186 horsepower and 186 lb.-ft. of torque.
But if that’s still not enough for your liking, the Mazda3 Sport GT is also available with a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder powerplant, which provides the car with 227 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque. A six-speed manual transmission comes standard at all levels, but all three are also available with a six-speed automatic if you prefer. You need to be aware that the six-speed automatic transmission is standard if you are leaning towards the GT version at the top of the range with the turbocharged engine option. Also, choosing AWD with any model means upgrading to the automatic as the manual isn’t available with AWD.
High levels of standard equipment are a feature of modern Mazda vehicles, and the 2022 Mazda3 Sport is no exception. Safety is an area where the Mazda3 Sport is particularly strong, and that helps it gain a five-star rating from the NHTSA and coveted Top Safety Pick+ status from the IIHS. Standard features include a rearview camera, Dynamic Stability Control, Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Although more advanced features such as Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Smart City Brake Support (front and rear), and Distance and Speed Alert are not standard with GX models, they are standard with the GS and GT versions of the 2022 Mazda3.
Range-topping GT versions of the Mazda3 Sport want for very little with a list of standard kit that includes natural leather upholstery, navigation, a 12-speaker premium Bose sound system, dual-zone climate control, a 10-way power driver’s seat, and even a windshield-projected colour Active Driving Display.
The 2022 Mazda3 Sport is an excellent reminder of why cars used to be the dominant vehicle format before crossovers and SUVs took over the world. It’s a big call to say a vehicle has it all because no car can realistically live up to that particular claim, but the Mazda3 Sport comes pretty close, as you’ll find when you come for a test drive with Erin Mills Mazda here at 2400 Motorway Blvd, Mississauga, ON.
